2019 is starting off as an exciting year for cartoons in China with the news that two short animated kids' films with Chinese lead characters have gotten the nod for a potential Oscar win. Read on below to see which two films are nominated for Best Animated Short Film.

Bao (宝贝呗)

Created by Chinese-Canadian storyboard artist and director Domee Shi, this Pixar-animated short film tells the story of a lonely mother suffering from empty nest syndrome who gets a second chance at motherhood when one of her homemade dumplings comes to life. But as all mothers know, our children won't stay small forever, and she must come to terms with this inevitable conflict of letting go. Click here to watch the full animation.
