Shanghai favourite Brut Eatery's new Pudong café is great for kids

Hearty comfort foods, a gorgeous children's play area, and of course, plenty of coffee

A welcome new addition to the Pudong café scene, Shanghai favourite Brut Eatery has opened a third location inside Zendai Big Thumb Plaza. Even more exciting, it’s the brand’s most family-friendly location to date.

The whole space is bright and whimsical: the walls have murals with colourful butterflies and caterpillars, coffee is served up in Brut’s signature cheerful cartoon face ceramic mugs, and a lofted kids’ chill-out space gives off charming treehouse vibes. The play area is also stocked with toys and activities like LEGO, stuffed animals, children’s books and colouring supplies.

The menu is full of staple comfort foods from their other locations; the Brut Chicken and Waffle (82RMB; pictured below), with six-spiced fried chicken, a fluffy waffle, pickled watermelon radish and jujube honey, makes an appearance as part of the all-day brunch menu. This location also has a kids’ menu with three rice or pasta options that arrive with a side of fruit or salad from 30RMB.

The whole space is pet-friendly and warmly welcomes leashed pups both inside the café and on the outdoor patio (which happens to be a great place to enjoy daily happy hour between 5-9.30pm, where all wine is buy-one-get-one-free). Keep an eye out for upcoming kid-friendly events, too, like activity workshops and second-hand toy swaps. Follow WeChat ID ‘BrutEatery’ for more.
