The best things to do this weekend in Shanghai

Spring Festival’s next week, and there’s tons of activities to get you into the holiday vibe. This weekend, we've got workout sessions, chill music events, interesting art exhibitions and of course the Yuyuan Lantern Festival.

Boxing and Brunch at Ringside Boxing

Ringside’s Nanjing Xi Lu branch will host a ‘boxing and brunch’ event this Saturday – all proceeds will go to the Australian NSW Rural Fire Service. What’s more, Ringside will donate the same amount as all the proceeds raised. The workout bit is an 80-minute intensive boxing and CrossFit training followed by a healthy brunch.

Movement pres Year of the Rat

To celebrate CNY, the Movement crew will provide an eclectic soundtrack across three stages that’ll include underground electronic and dance music. Line-ups include a live performance by Das Nice and beats from XC3N, Spirit and the Guide, Third Wave, Psychicnova and more. Dress code: red.

HOW Art Museum presents a collection of Li Binyuan's action-based works from the past decade. Frequently compared to Francis Alÿs, whose works explore themes such as individual action and importance, the events in Li Binyuan’s photos usually take place at any time and often lead to no concrete results. Radical and ridiculous at times, Li invites viewers to reconsider our bodies and their boundaries.

Yuyuan Lantern Festival

It’s Shanghai’s longest and best-known annual lantern festival – Yuyuan gets decked out with huge, brightly coloured displays tailored for each year of the Chinese zodiac. This year the Lantern Festival will last until Tuesday 11 February.
