Banyan Tree, the Southeast Asian resort chain synonymous with spas and romance, arrives in Shanghai this month with a Hongkou waterfront property just around the Huangpu bend. The 12-storey hotel holds 130 rooms, many of which boast private pools with south-facing panoramic views of The Bund. Along with their signature Banyan Tree Spa, the hotel has three new restaurants as well as STARS, a rooftop bar.
The chain is pursuing a programme of rapid expansion in China, with another hotel opening planned for Shanghai next year, plus six more in locations across the country.
Opening packages, which include a spa treatment and complimentary in-room breakfast for two, start at 2,888RMB/night plus 15 per cent.
